Early Life and Education
Makhadzi, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, was born in Ha-Mashamba, a village outside Elim in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Following the separation of both parents, she and her siblings had to stay with their mother.
Makhadzi completed her grade 12 at Mukula Integrated School before obtaining a degree in Public Relations.
While growing up, she was interested in entertainment and started dancing at 12.
Music Career
Makhadzi started her career in entertainment at a young age. She was a known performer at Taxi ranks and received money from individual offerings.
In 2010, Makhadzi decided to join a group, Makhiri Khiri, and was supportive as a dancer.
After leaving dancing, she started working on her music career. Makhadzi personally released three albums, Muvhango (2009), Ndo Tshinya Ni? (2011), and Litshani u Ntsala Murahu (2012).
Makhadzi released her fourth studio album titled Rita Dee on the 1st of December 2024.
In 2015, she earned a record deal with Rita Dee Entertainment and followed it up by releasing another album, Muhwalo Uya Ndemela.
In 2017, Makhadzi released yet another album, Yo Shoma. The album won two awards, including Best Female Artist and Tshivenda Best at Fame South African Music Awards.
2019-2020: Matorokisi, Kokovha
Makhadzi made a significant break in the music industry with the release of the single Matorokisi in 2019, which quickly became one of the best-selling songs of her music career.
The studio album Matorokisi was released in November 2019 and peaked at number two on iTunes/Apple Music South Africa.
Makhadzi was part of Master KG’s album as she was featured in the single Tshikwama. She bagged a record deal with Open Mic Productions after departing Rita Dee Entertainment.
In 2020, Makhadzi released the studio album Kokovha in South Africa. The album features a lot of top names, including Prince Benza, Gigi Lamayne, Moonchild Sanelly, Charma, Sho Madjozi, and Maylen.
In 2021, her album earned the most streams on Apple Music and was certified with Gold Plaque.
2021-2022: African Queen, Pain Ya Jealous, African Queen 2.0
Makhadzi released the single, Mjolo, featuring Mlindo the Vocalist in April 2021. The song earned the number 28 spot on South Africa’s iTunes charts.
During the same period, she had two singles, Ghanama and King Monada, released in July 2021. The song was certified platinum in South Africa.
In August, Makhadzi announced their album, African Queen, on her Twitter account. She released the single, Tchukutsha, featuring Lady Du in the same month.
The studio album African Queen was eventually released on the 3rd of September 2021. It was a thrilling album with top music acts, including Kabza De Small, Lady Du, and Cassper Nyovest.
Makhadzi received a nomination for Best Female Artist in South Africa at the 6th ceremony of the All Africa Music Awards.
Pain Ya Jealous was released on the 31st of March 2022 and was certified Gold in South Africa. She announced plans to work on another album, African Queen 2.0, which was meant to house 30 songs.
2023-Present: Mbofholowo, upcoming album
In May 2023, Makhadzi ended her contract with the record label Open Mic Production. After leaving the label, she quickly established her record label, Makhadzi Entertainment, and started working on her sixth album, Mbofholowo.
The album was released in September, earned a million streams on Apple Music, and was certified Platinum.
Still, in September, Makhadzu was announced as Spotify’s equal ambassador. She released “Number 1,” which featured Nigerian musician Iyanya and Prince Benza, in March 2024. Within two months of its release, it earned two times platinum.
Makhadzi won the Dance Artist of the Year Award at the International Achievement of the Year at the 2024 Basadi in Music Awards.
