Early Life and Education
Cassper Nyovest, whose real name is Refiloe Maele Phoolo, was born in Mafikeng to Muzuki and Letsebela Phoolo. He attended Sol Plaatjie Secondary School, where he showed signs of athleticism and a keen interest in music.
Cassper Nyovest moved to his grandmother’s house in Potchefstroom after failing to pass his Grade 10 exams. He decided to leave high school and, in 2008, relocated to Johannesburg to chase a music career.

2004-2014: Early Stages and Tsholofelo
Cassper Nyovesy formed a hip-hop group, “Childhood Gangsta,” in 2004 with his friends
Thereafter, he left for Slow Motion, a group with eight members, with the addition of record producer Aashish Gangaram of Ganja Beatz.
After dropping out of school, Cassper signed with Motswako record label Impact Sounds but departed in 2008 after some differences.
Following his departure, he established his record label, Family Tree Records, and released songs, including Gusheshe and Doc Shebeleza, which received many positive reviews from the public.
On the 18th of July 2014, Cassper released his debut album, Tsholofelo, and it became an instant success. He was ranked the top artist on MTV Base and number two on MTV South Africa’s Hottest MCs.
2015-2016: Refiloe
After the success of Tsholofelo, Cassper Nyovest released another album that featured internationally known musicians Wizkid and DJ Drama. He voiced his interest in headlining a concert known as Fill Up The Some at the TicketPro Dome, Johannesburg.
During the event, Cassper released his second album, Refiloe. He ended the year with another Fill-Up Orlando Stadium event in October 2016 and earned the number one spot on MTV Base: South African Hottest MCs list.
2017-2019: Thuto and Sweet and Short
Cassper released “Tito Mboweni” from his third album, “Thuto,” which was officially released in May 2017. The album was certified; he was invited to host another Fill Up event, this time at the FNB stadium, Johannesburg.
Though ticket sales were low, the event was a big success. In 2018, Cassper released “Sweet and Short,” his fourth album. He ended the year with a Fill Up event at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.
2020-2022: Any Minute Now, Sweet and Short 2.0
Cassper Nyovest released his fifth album, Any Minute Now, in September 2020. He won three awards at the 2020 South Africa Hip Hop Awards following his album’s success.
Cassper decided to try a new genre and released his first Amapiano studio album, Sweet and Short 2.0, on the 30th of July, 2021. He further traveled to the United Kingdom for the AmaFest Tour.
2023-Present: Solomon, African Throne World Tour
On the 28th of July, 2023, Cassper Nyovest announced his studio album, Solomon. He and Nasty C announced the African Throne World Tour with 12 dates scheduled for August 18 to October 28 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Following the album’s postponement, 018 was announced, featuring Maglera Doe Boy. Solomon was eventually released in September 2023.
Aside from music, Cassper Nyovest has a Sneakers Company, a Root of Fame, and a Liquor Brand, Billiato, and is partly a boxer.
